Reading has been something that I have enjoyed since I learnt when I was a young child. Recently, I thought to myself, why do I enjoy reading so much? I answered this question in my head, and decided it might be a fun post for my blog!
1.
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. The man who never reads lives only one.” Immediately, I thought of this quote. When I’m reading a good book, I genuinely feel as if I’m in a different world, which is always a nice escape. Especially if I’ve had a bad day!
2.
Boredom. When I was little, we didn’t have internet at home, and you can only play with toys so many times before it gets repetitive. So, I read. I had what seemed like an endless supply of books through my school library, which meant I’d never get bored at home.
3.
I feel like I learn something valuable from every book I read. Whether it’s a new word, or an important lesson, I’m constantly being educated by books, which I love. I get to do something I enjoy and learn whilst doing so. It’s a win-win situation.
4.
Because I can. I know I am privileged to be able to read, there’s countless young children and even adults across the world that were never taught, so I want to use my ability as much as I can, it seems a waste not to. (I’m not at all saying those who don’t read books are inferior, they too read everyday, whether it’s a sign post or a text. I understand that everyone has different interests!)
5.
It entertains me. This one seems like the most obvious. I enjoy it, so I do it. Very simple.
6.
“There is no friend as loyal as a book.” Yes, another quote. Ernest Hemmingway this time! There have been times in my life where I’ve felt incredibly lonely for different reasons, but I’ve always been able to find comfort in a book.
There are more ways I could answer this question, but these 6 answers are the ones that come to mind straight away. What about you, why do you read?

Honestly, I agree with literally all your answers! Haha. To be honest, I was never a big reader until I was given book then decided to read on my own. Usually we have books assigned in class, but it felt to forced. I needed to read in my own free will and I just began reading like crazy now. I love to hear your thoughts on your posts though!💓💓

Absolutely this! I’ve always loved to read and even now I don’t have much free time, I still love to have a book on the go!

I agree with all your answers. I’ve never really thought of why I read other than I like it. This was thought provoking 🙂

Every realm is exactly the same as me, reading helps me get away from my life and it’s like for that short time I’m reading; I don’t have to worry. Xx

I agree with absolutely everything! Love this post! I think the biggest reason I read is to escape from reality for a bit.

Nice topic, nice post 🙂 I think you are right, the first reason is that it’s an escape. In the end, this world is too problematic, too boring. But then, there’s also the silence bit – reading is my time alone with myself, my chance to wind down, to be in silence (that really relaxes me). I think that’s also why I really enjoy it 🙂 then you also get to learn about different people, different things. Learning is one of the things I enjoy most about almost anything in life 🙂

While the idea that it entertains you may seem obvious, I definitely think that its important to note. There are some people that try to encourage reading, but they don’t find a genre they enjoy and are missing that entertainment factor. I think without that it would be hard to keep going back to it!

Loved your answers. Especially that you mentioned you are priviledged enough to be able to have books to read, it’s so important to see it that way, and many times we seem to forget that.
